Atalanta striker and rumoured Chelsea target Duvan Zapata has opened the door to a move to the Premier League and revealed that he supported Arsenal when he was younger.

The Colombian, who has netted 10 goals in Serie A so far this season and laid on eight assists, has long been linked with a move to England and has recently emerged as a potential option for Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring in a new number nine amid Timo Werner’s struggles in front of goal and Chelsea have identified Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland as their top target.

But the Norwegian is wanted by a host of Europe’s biggest clubs – including Real Madrid, Barcelona and both Manchester clubs – and Zapata has been mooted as a cheaper alternative.

The 30-year-old frontman could even join in addition to Haaland and replace Olivier Giroud in the squad, with the veteran Frenchman’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Zapata has enjoyed several excellent campaigns with Atalanta and has a contract until 2023, so he will not come cheap, but he says he would be keen to test himself in the Premier League.

Asked about the speculation surrounding him by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Zapata replied: ‘My future in the Premier League? Never say never in football!’

However, while Chelsea may be interested in signing the powerful forward there could be one rather big stumbling block: his allegiances lie with the red side of London.

Zapata continued: ‘When I was a kid I was always watching the Premier League. I was an Arsenal fan! I got up early every weekend to watch their games.’

Arsenal have actually been linked with Zapata in the past, dating back to his time at Napoli, and the Gunners may be in the market for a new centre-forward if they decide to sell contract rebel Alexandre Lacazette while Eddie Nketiah could also be offloaded.

Zapata has spoken about his fondness for Arsenal previously, saying in 2019: ‘I was in love with Thierry Henry’s Arsenal. In Colombia we love the Premier League. Who knows, one day I could play there.’
