Collin Morikawa became the first debutant since Ben Curtis in 2003 to win the Open Championship at the first time of asking.
The American saw off a final round challenge from Jordan Spieth to beat the Texan by two shots.
Morikawa hit a last round 66 to finish -15 overall, giving the 24-year-old his second major of his career to add to his 2020 PGA Championship.
Spieth applied the pressure on the back nine, coming to within one shot of Morikawa at one stage but Morikawa hit a crucial birdie on the 14th to keep the pressure at bay.
Astonishingly, it is the first time Morikawa has played the Open and it adds to his impressive feat of winning the PGA Championship as a debutant in 2020.
Morikawa took the lead on Friday morning and fended off the competition for the remainder 44 holes.
John Rahm and Louis Oosthuizen finished tied third on -11, with Dylan Frittelli coming fifth on -9.
