The number of people testing positive for Covid-19 across England has dropped by nearly 30% in a single week, according to the latest statistics.

Test and Trace figures show 196,257 people tested positive for coronavirus at least once in the week to January 27.

This was a 29% drop compared to the previous week, and almost half the 389,946 who tested positive in the first week of January.

It is the lowest figure since mid-December, suggesting England’s national lockdown is having an impact on case numbers.
