French horror filmmaker Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Crawl) is taking a stab at sci-fi with the intensely claustrophobic thriller Oxygen, which will be debuting on Netflix on May 12, 2021.
“Oxygen is a French survival thriller that tells the story of a young woman (Mélanie Laurent, 6 Underground, Inglourious Basterds), who wakes up in a cryogenic pod. She doesn’t remember who she is or how she ended up there. As she’s running out of oxygen, she must rebuild her memory to find a way out of her nightmare.”
The full trailer really pushes in on the claustrophobic aspects of the film, which looks reminiscent of the Ryan Reynolds thriller Buried. There appears to be a deeper mystery here that plays out over the course of the film as Mélanie Laurent attempts to learn who she is and why she’s in the pod.
