Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino expects Kylian Mbappe to stay at the club ‘for a long time’ with player and officials in discussions over a new contract.

The 22-year-old’s future has been the centre of much speculation especially as his current contract with PSG expires in 2022.

Real Madrid have been most strongly linked with the France international, while the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona have also been mooted as possible destinations for him.

PSG clearly want to keep hold of their prolific striker and Pochettino has confirmed that talks are underway between club and player.

While nothing is confirmed as yet, the Argentinian wants to see the Frenchman stay in Paris for a long time to come.

‘It’s something we are used to,’ Pochettino said of the ongoing Mbappe speculation. ‘When we talk about top clubs and top players like Kylian Mbappe who is at international level, there will always be rumours.

‘The most important thing is that Kylian is quiet. He is quiet and focused on the team and helping them achieve their goals. Kylian is very mature despite his age.

‘Both club and player are trying to come to an agreement that will see Kylian stay with us for a long time. It’s the desire of the club and we are working on everything.

‘You cannot control what happens outside. Does it have any effect on the players’ performance or the atmosphere of the team? Zero, no consequences.’

Mbappe has proved extremely difficult to stop in a PSG shirt, since joinin the club from Monaco in 2017.

He has netted 122 times in 162 games for the Parisians, becoming one of the most feared forwards on the planet.

PSG are desperate to keep hold of him, but if a new contract cannot be agreed by the summer then the Ligue 1 side could cash in on him over the close season.
