PSG believe they can sign Paul Pogba for surprisingly low transfer fee

Paris Saint-German are prepared to test the waters with an opening bid for Manchester United star Paul Pogba and are confident an offer of just £43million could be enough to persuade the Premier League club to sell the France international.

The French giants are embarking on an ambitious summer recruitment drive following a disappointing 2020/21 campaign which saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side surrender the Ligue 1 title to Lille and exit the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

PSG then suffered the embarrassment of watching Thomas Tuchel, sacked earlier in the season, guide Chelsea to European glory before being forced to deny Pochettino was considering his future amid interest from his old club Spurs.

The Argentine has now signed a one-year extension and is hoping to oversee a major rebuilding project which has already begun in earnest following the arrivals of Achraf Hakimi, centre-back Sergio Ramos and goalkeeper Gianlugi Donnarumma.

According to The Telegraph, PSG will now turn their attentions to Pogba who has just a year remaining on his current United contract and has shown little sign of agreeing an extension.

United spent a club record £89.3m on Pogba to bring him back from Juventus four years ago, but his second stint at Old Trafford has been something of a mixed bag, characterised by moments of brilliance, lengthy absences through injury and a spectacular fall out with Jose Mourinho.

Last season’s Premier League runners-up are now facing the prospect of selling the 28-year-old for less than half of what they spent on him and have been scouring the market for replacements.

Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes is highly regarded by key figures at Old Trafford, while Declan Rice and Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez have also been heavily linked in recent weeks.

United on Friday, meanwhile, confirmed the £72.9m signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and are making progress with a deal to recruit Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
