Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland would still be keen to join Liverpool despite the Premier League club’s dismal run of form.

The Reds won 32 of their 38 league games last season to finish 18 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City and bring the title back to Anfield for the first time in 30 years.

It has been a vastly different story for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, however, and they currently find themselves down in eighth, 25 points behind champions-elect Man City.

Ferdinand believes this campaign will prove to be a ‘blip’ for Liverpool and says Anfield is still be an attractive proposal for top players like Mbappe and Haaland.

‘I think it’s a blip,’ Ferdinand told BT Sport ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against RB Leipzig. ‘His biggest challenge will be to pick these players up and rebuild them.

‘It took them three or four years to build this confidence. After building such fear in opponents to now teams swaggering into Anfield, I think, given the last couple of years, they’ve had two Champions League finals back-to-back, I think people will still go there with the mindset that they can get back.’

Asked whether that includes Mbappe or Haaland, Ferdinand responded: ‘I think they would, yeah.

‘Someone like Mbappe looks at the way Liverpool play and the manager. You look at the quality of players they’ve got there and the manager.

‘Is that the type of manager you’d want to play for? Klopp still is, yeah.’

Liverpool beat Leipzig in both legs of their last-16 Champions League clash to progress to the quarter-finals.
