Selena Gomez has revealed she’s considering retiring from music because she feels she’s not being taken seriously as a musician.
Despite delivering chart-topping hits such as Come and Get It, the singer told Vogue she feels she does not get the respect she deserves and may walk away from music.
So far in her career, the 28- year-old has seen all three of her studio albums reaching the top of the charts in the US, while her best-known singles include Good For You, Same Old Love, and Hands To Myself.
Opening to the publication about her feelings regarding her career, the former Disney star explained: ‘It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously. I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, “What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?”‘
The Wizards of Waverly Place star added that her 2019 single Love You To Lose Me was ‘the best song I’ve ever released’, but ‘for some people it still wasn’t enough’.
Selena stated: ‘I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.’
The 13 Reasons Why producer added that she wants to spend more time producing and to ‘give myself a real shot at acting’.
Indeed, she got her start as a child star appearing on Barney & Friends before her big break came in Disney’s Wizards Of Waverly Place.
In between releasing albums, the star has enjoyed a varied TV and film career.
Her film credits include Spring Breakers, The Dead Don’t Die and A Rainy Day In New York.
The singer has since served as executive producer on Living Undocumented, as well as on the 2020 romcom The Broken Hearts Gallery.
Let’s hope she continues to bless both our screens and eardrums in the future.
